Default Can't Download Guild Wars

When I try to Download Guild wars onto my Computer from the Main site,
It saves etc. and asks if I wish to run (I click yes) The small gray box appears and starts loading, and says Connecting to Arena net, it starts fast then slows down, slower and slower then just stops, What could cause this?
I used to run GW on this Pc years ago, On dial up. I now have DSL and an upgraded Graph-card. So any reason why I cant complete the connection to Arena Net? I been trying daily with the exact same results for weeks.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can start GW in diagnostic mode. Modify the shortcut icon properties.
Target : "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -diag
or something like this, it depends on the installation location.

Well I turned off my Antivirus, And tried to re-connect.
It worked!!!
Now the issue is im getting 4-7 fps...
Fixing one problem, lead's into another..
I have a new G-card as i stated before, so now i dont understand.
Years ago I ran this game perfect ON DIAL UP!
Now with DSL and a new graph card i run into an fps problem.
I run other online games such as Counter strike, Left 4 dead, with ease.
SO now the question is why cant I run simple old GW like I used to...

Now few things make sure you have the newest grafic drivers and what OS you running anyway ?
Woulnt hurt if you updated your Direct X incase youre running XP
Did you try to mess with the grafic settings in game ?

Hello again, Yes I am running windows XP, the graph settings are turned down to low. Updated driver, and I believe I have the newest DirectX.
I'm up to 10Fps although, when I face a wall im up to 38 lol.
But as in for normal gameplay sticks around 4-8. Getting closer to a solution.
Would the Background download that appears when I sit in town have anything to do with my low FPS?
Thanks in advance

The background download wont affect it as frames per second is only up to your hardware.
I Dont have any ideas at this point other than run the game click on that "Test My Computer" then contact tech support and attach that test result to it and maybe they can sort it out .

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ 2.2GHz
NVidia GeForce 8400GS
2048MB RAM
It's not the best, but I know it's over the recommended system req.

do you have AA (Anti Aliasing) enabled in your graphics settings? That will give you a huge hit in FPS with that video card - also is VSync disabled or enabled in the graphics settings? Try switching that as well.

AA is set to None.
Vsync was on, toggled on/off no change.
Although I checked CPU usage and it's maxed at 100% should it be? I know it's not an amazing comp, and programs use a lot of it up, but 100%? I did end processes that were not needed on various programs. The rest are either system or local.
Im at 37 Processes.
fps 10-13
I cleaned out the pc aswell with an air hose, every crack has been dusted out. Cause i've heard about over heating and high CPU following.
Thanks again!!

You haven't said what resolution you are playing the game at. If you have a newer monitor with 1680x1050 or higher rez, that could explain the low fps. The 8400GS is a low-end card and would struggle at that sort of rez. It could be time for a new, better, graphics card.

Another thing I'm wondering is, did you install the graphics driver for the card? That high cpu usage almost sounds like the graphics routines are being done in software rather than hardware.

Current res 1024x768 i switched even to 800x600 No difference at all.
I do have the latest driver installed at the moment.
Could the Anti virus program I have be limiting fps?
It did give me issues before with connecting to Arena net.

I know my anti virus freaks out aand starts using up all my resources when it thinks something thats running is a virus...so it could be...if you add gw.exe and the .dll in the same folder to the exceptions you should be fine though...also..when you open up task manager and look at the processes...is gw.exe the one using most of the resources?

*ignore anything I say if anyone below me disagrees with anything I say as I am most likely wrong*

what's your anti virus? By all means add the gw.exe to the exceptions list - it's very possible that your AV program is trying to limit gw.

ALso - what's your ISP? Do you have some kind of limited download package? Some ISPs do not do well with large downloads or streaming content; ie such as Guild Wars.
